Dreadmoor World

The collapse, the Sea Blight, the survivors, and what the story leaves unanswered.

World Overview & Core Systems

Dreadmoor is a hybrid world: recognisable coastlines, factories and high-rises, drowned and reorganised by a catastrophe nobody agrees on. The confirmed version is that humanity built climate-control technology intended to regulate seasons, rainfall and tides, that the project was activated during a desperate period, and that the poles shifted, the crust fractured and the coastlines sank. Whether it was a disaster, a weapon or a punishment depends on which survivor you ask.

What followed is the part that shapes gameplay. Industry shut down and left chemicals and radioactive material unmanaged; the leaks reached the ocean and produced the Sea Blight, a pre-collapse biological substance that now spreads through water, clings to surfaces and sometimes hangs in the air as green mist. It mutates what it touches, humans worst of all, which is why settlements are isolated, trust is scarce, and some cults treat mutation as evolution rather than corruption.

Unreliable History

No single account of the collapse is authoritative in-world. The game gives fragments, not a timeline.

Blight as Geography

The Sea Blight is why regions are avoided, why creatures differ by water, and why the air itself can be the hazard.

Isolation Breeds Cults

Settlements range from trading towns to tribal groups and Blight worshippers. Trust is the scarcest resource.

Dreadmoor World FAQ

What caused the flood in Dreadmoor?

Official developer diaries describe an experimental device built to manipulate Earth's magnetic fields and climate, activated in desperation, which shifted the poles and fractured the crust. Survivors in-world disagree about the cause.

What is the Sea Blight?

A biological substance discovered in the far north before the collapse, originally used in medicine and engineering. After the collapse it changed, spreading through water and air and mutating living organisms.

Is Dreadmoor set on Earth?

It is a hybrid — a post-apocalyptic reflection of Earth. Landmarks feel familiar but the geography is not a direct map of a real region.
