Dreadmoor Fishing
Line tension, fish stamina, bait tiers, species notes, and the torn-page skill tree.
Fishing Overview & Core Systems
Fishing in Dreadmoor is a fight, not a rest. You cast toward a spot of disturbed water, wait for a bite, then pull in the opposite direction to the fish while watching two meters: its stamina and your line tension. Overplay a heavy fish and the line snaps; play too cautiously and it recovers and runs again. The developers describe the result as a system built on fish stamina, line tension and quick-time moments rather than a click-and-wait minigame.
Bait decides what is even willing to bite. Earthworms cover the opening Snapper contract, wound bait — unlocked with torn pages on the fishing skill tree — attracts small peaceful fish, and each fishing spot lists the species present with temperament tags and the lure icons that work on them. Because bait is consumed, the economy is circular: common catches grind into bait material, bait catches better fish, and better fish carry the organs behind stronger lures.
Two Meters
Watch stamina to know when to strike and tension to know when to give slack. Neither one alone tells you what to do next.
Bait Gates Species
A spot can hold fish that will never take your current bait. Read the spot panel before blaming your timing.
The Hold Is Inventory
Carnivorous catches eat their neighbours in the hold. Sorting is part of fishing, not a menu chore after it.

Dreadmoor Fishing FAQ
Is Dreadmoor fishing skill-based or luck-based?+
Skill-based. The developers describe a first-person system built around fish stamina and line tension, with bait choice and casting decisions changing your results.
What happens if my line snaps?+
You lose the fish and the bait spent on the cast. The tension system exists to make overplaying a hooked fish costly.
Can you fish at night?+
Yes, and some species only appear under specific conditions or at certain times. Night also brings more active creatures and worse visibility, so the same spot plays very differently after dark.
