Dreadmoor Guides
First-hour plans, the demo quest chain, controls, and the habits that keep a run alive.
Guides Overview & Core Systems
Dreadmoor opens with a debt, not a tutorial. Gill and Bozur treat your Blight exposure with Essence, book the cost against you, and hand over a bunkhouse key; everything after that is work you do to square the ledger. The demo's first hour is therefore a chain of small errands — carry your chest inside, patch the wall, sleep, collect the Simple Rod — and each one exists to teach a system you will use for the rest of the game.
The loop that follows is deliberately slow. You fuel a trawler that rattles, tune a radio dial by dial, hook floating salvage out of the water, and fish only at spots that show bubbles or disturbed surface. Nothing teleports into your inventory. Guides in this section are written around that pacing: what to do next when a quest stalls, which order keeps resources flowing, and which mistakes cost a whole expedition rather than a few minutes.
Debt First
The Essence treatment is a loan. Accept it, then clear the bunkhouse and first fishing contract before spending anything on optional gear.
Errands Teach Systems
Carrying the chest, patching the wall and repairing the still each introduce inventory, repair and scavenging rules you will reuse constantly.
Read the Objective
Dreadmoor's journal names the blocking step. Most stalled runs are a missing key item, not a missing location.

Dreadmoor Guides FAQ
What should I do first in Dreadmoor?+
Tune the radio, sail west to the trading post, speak to Gill and Bozur, then take your chest to the bunkhouse and repair the wall before sleeping. The first fishing contract only opens after that night.
How long is the demo?+
The demo has its own questline running from an abandoned house to The Throat gate. Most players report a few hours, but the build ends at the gate rather than continuing into the full game.
Do I need the demo before buying?+
It is the cheapest way to test whether the tactile pacing suits you. The fishing, refuelling and repair loops are the game, not a tutorial wrapper around it.
